Independent service provider Deutsche Windtechnik is taking over turbine maintenance of new Senvion machines at the 200MW Trianel Windpark Borkum II offshore wind project while rival Siemens Gamesa is still in talks to buy other businesses of the insolvent OEM.

Deutsche Windtechnik will provide maintenance for 32 Senvion 6.3M 152 turbines including remote fault elimination, spare parts management and logistics from Borkum or Emden.

"We are delighted to have found an experienced and reliable partner in Deutsche Windtechnik to take over the service contract for the Senvion turbines," said Klaus Horstick, managing director of operator Trianel Windkraftwerk Borkum II GmbH & Co. KG.

The deal for Deutsche Windtechnik on offshore services at Trianel Windpark Borkum II (TWB 2) comes as Siemens Gamesa seems to be in final negotiations for a potential acquisition of selected onshore wind service and other assets of Senvion in Europe.

Built by the network of municipal utilities Trianel, and regional peer EWE, TWB 2 is one of the last offshore wind arrays in Germany still being built without the support level being determined by tenders, and slated to be completed until next year.

It is the second stage of the project. Its first phase was completed in 2015, featuring turbines of the now defunct manufacturer Areva.

"We were awarded the contract for turbine service at Trianel Windpark Borkum II due to our extensive experience in the maintenance of Senvion turbines. In addition, we also offer know-how for the entire offshore turbine and peripherals, our engineering and our technical and multi-brand expertise,” said Deutsche Windtechnik board member Matthias Brandt.

"Following the orders for Riffgat, Alpha Ventus and now Trianel Windpark Borkum II, we are making continuous progress in expanding our offshore activities, especially the area of turbine service.”
