Independent service provider Deutsche Windtechnik has won a contract to also service Senvion’s 6MW class.
It now has all classes manufactured by the embattled OEM under service contract, including the complete MD and MM series, the 3.XM series and the 6.XM series.
"Senvion's insolvency is currently creating a strong demand for our service for a wide range of this manufacturer's turbine technologies, both onshore and offshore,” said Deutsche Windtechnik board director Matthias Brandt.
“Projects that have current, urgent issues in connection with our existing collaboration with Senvion are of particular importance. Customers are looking for resilient, sustainable alternatives for continuing maintenance."
Troubled Senvion in April had entered self-administration insolvency and is looking for an investor. The OEM in May managed to sign service contract extensions after having gained some breathing space through a €100m ($113) loan deal with debtors, but it is still unclear whether its efforts will succeed.
Deutsche Windtechnik’s Swiss service deal is with international asset management firm re:cap global investors from Switzerland for the Handewitt wind farm that features two Senvion 6.2M126 machines.
The investment firm said the continuous, undisrupted, reliable availability of maintenance services for its turbines is key to achieving their projected service life.
"Due to the special circumstances arising from the insolvency of the manufacturer Senvion, we have had to take a long, hard look at alternative offers for full maintenance from manufacturer-independent maintenance companies,” said re:cap managing director Thomas Staudinger.
“Above all, Deutsche Windtechnik convinced us with its concept for a solution-oriented approach with fast implementation, its in-house refurbishment expertise and the many years of experience it has with Senvion turbines.”
Deutsche Windtechnik already services just under 300 Senvion turbines.
Only a small number of Senvion’s 6MW class machines have been installed onshore, while most are installed at sea.
