The giant floating spars for developer Statoil's 30MW Buchan Deep wind power array off the UK are in late-stage fabrication at Navantia’s shipyard in Fene, Spain.

The 3,500-tonne, 14.4-metre diameter steel cylinders will now be welded into the cigar-shaped hulls for the five Hywind turbines being installed off Scotland next year, with delivery from the Spanish yard starting next March.
