France plans massive wind and solar power build-up by 2030
President Macron pledges to triple onshore wind, boost PV fivefold by 2030, and hold four new offshore wind tenders
France as part of its multi-year energy plan (PPE) plans a massive expansion of onshore wind and PV by 2030, and less-than-expected build-up of offshore wind, while committing to a delayed but structured phase-down of nuclear power by 2035, President Emmanuel Macron said.
The country intends to triple its onshore wind output by 2030, and increase its solar PV production fivefold, Macron said during a speech at the Elysée palace explaining his plans for France’s energy transition.
According to the PPE published by the ecological transition ministry, France at the end of the 10-year PPE in 2018 would reach an cumulated onshore wind capacity of 34.1-35.6GW by 2030, a solar capacity of 35.6-44.5GW, and an offshore wind capacity of 4.7-5.2GW.
