The buoy-shaped WindSentinel unit, from Axys Technologies, will be used to check the performance of the WindFloat1 prototype unit that has been turning in water depths of some 50 metres off the coast of Póvoa de Varzim since 2011, and hone measurement of the wind resource at the site.
Since being moored in late July, the WindSentinel has fed data back with over 98% uptime in winds gusting to over 20 metres/second as well as eight-metre waves.
