New York state approved $150m to kick off the final solicitation round for large-scale renewables under its soon-to-sunset system for supporting big wind and solar projects. Over the years, New York’s “Main Tier” renewables solicitations have supported 67 projects totaling 1.85GW of capacity as part of the state’s renewable portfolio standard, benefiting developers like EDPR and Iberdrola Renewables. With a new target – 50% renewables by 2030 – about to come into effect, the state will transition to an as-yet-undetermined system for allocating large-scale wind and solar capacity.
