Wind giant Siemens softens UK line, urges early trade clarity

Germany’s Siemens has said the UK will continue to be a good place to do business, despite warnings by the wind power giant ahead of last month’s EU referendum that a vote to leave could create uncertainty around the group’s future investments in the country.

Siemens chief executive Joe Kaeser, speaking at a House of Commons event, said that the company was “here to stay” and remained fully committed to manufacturing in the UK. He added that “the UK matters” whether or not it is a member of the EU.

Ahead of the 23 June referendum and since, the industrial giant was outspoken in expressing its worries about the potential risks of an EU exit on the long-term prospects for the £310m ($349m) wind turbine blade factory in Hull, northeast England.
