Green power operator TransAlta Renewables will spend up to C$100m ($79m) replacing 50 foundations at an onshore wind complex in the east of Canada after an investigation into a turbine tower collapse uncovered a design fault.
TransAlta launched an investigation in October after the collapse of a single turbine at its Kent Hills 2 project in New Brunswick.
The developer said a root cause analysis “indicates that deficiencies in the original design of the foundations have caused crack propagation… and that the foundations must be replaced” at the Kent Hills 1 and 2 sites.
