Not surprisingly, the research group expects investment this year to fall below 2008’s high of $34bn, but “the global trend towards greater renewable energy deployment points to a sustained period of wind turbine investment”, IHS says.

Installed capacity is expected to grow in the next 15 years from 188GW to more than 940GW.

The study predicts 2011 wind installations will be up 16% on 2010, and that investment will return to 2008 levels next year.
