The 15%-18% share envisaged in the IEA’s latest TechnologyRoadmap for wind – up from a current 2.6% – involves deployment of between 2.3 terawatts and 2.8TW by the middle of the century. It represents a big boost on the 12% 2050 share targetedunder a 2009 study.

The IEA said:“Thecost of land-based wind power is close to competitive with other sources ofelectricity in an increasing set of circumstances.
