The organisation’s Renewable Capacity Statistics 2016 says the total renewable generation base reached 1,985GW by the end of last year.
The overall annual growth of 8.3% – the highest seen to date – was fuelled by record expansions in both wind and solar.
Wind grew by 63GW in 2015, or 17% annually, as turbine costs showed falls of up to 45% since 2010.
