The group was unveiled during a summit held at the White House with officials from industry and government.
It will bring together government departments such as Interior, Energy, Commerce and the Environmental Protection Agency, and include key sub-agencies such as the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM).
The working group hopes to co-ordinate the federal strategy when dealing with states, businesses and other stakeholders.
