The WEC report charts a decade-long expansion that saw wind and solar notch up annual growth of 23% and 50% respectively – although it notes that the two sources “combined contribution to the global electricity supply is currently only 4%”.
The WEC pointed out that $286bn was invested in 154GW of new renewables last year, three quarters of it wind and PV.
