The Wind Energy Institute at the Technical University of Munich's (TUM) research into "total wind farm control", which used lidars from ZephIR, showed that if wakes were "deflected" along a line of turbines, overall production from a plant could be increased by some 15%.

"Total wind farm control looks at the most effective method of turbine operation to benefit the overall production output from the site, rather than on an individual turbine-by-turbine basis," states TUM's Wind Energy Institute chairman, Carlo Bottasso, on behalf of the project partners.
