Habib Dagher has led an eight-year effort to develop the innovative VolturnUS offshore wind floating-hull technology at the University of Maine.

After a successful 1:8 scale, 18-month deployment at sea, the next step is a planned two-turbine, 12MW project called New England Aqua Ventus in state waters to demonstrate the cost advantages and technology at utility-scale.

A consortium led by Maine Prime Technologies, a spin-off company representing the University of Maine, Cianbro Corp and Emera view the pilot as a step toward commercialization of the technology in the US and globally, and is engaged with developers to do this.
