Vestas advances 1GW Pakistan wind ambition with first-phase LOI

Vestas moved a step closer to a potential 1GW opportunity in Pakistan’s Punjab province, when authorities there issued a letter of intent (LOI) over the first 250MW stage of the proposed Quaid e Azam Wind Park project.

Vestas will work with the Punjab government to help secure about $2.2bn in finance that would be needed to build the four-phase Quaid e Azam complex, which would be Pakistan’s biggest wind project, said a statement issued by the Danish Embassy in Islamabad.

The LOI sets out a timetable to have the first 250MW stage in operation by the end of 2018.
