Vattenfall says that the increase is mainly attributable to the start-up of the Thanet offshore wind farm in the UK and Stor-Rotliden in Sweden, which were commissioned at the end of 2010.
Operating profits from the renewables division - which includes wind but not hydropower - rose 119% to SEK394m ($64.4m), from a loss of SEK180 in the first quarter of 2010.
