Vattenfall acquired Global Tech 2, sited 85km north of the island of Borkum, for an undisclosed sum from a joint venture of Austrian construction group Strabag and its partner Etanax.

The Swedish company said Global Tech 2’s progress depends on its success in offshore wind tenders Germany is holding in March 2017 and March 2018.

Those auctions are special interim tenders for offshore projects that have already won licences but not yet begun construction, arranged as a concession to the industry under Germany’s latest reforms to its renewable energy law (EEG).
