Construction of the project – called Sandbank24 – will begin in early 2014 and will require investment of SKr10bn ($1.43bn).

Vattenfall recently purchased the project from German company Sandbank Power. It currently has permits for 96, 6MW turbines, but there is potential to expand the wind farm by a further 40 machines.

Sandbank24 will be located 90km west of the German island of Sylt, close to the 288MW Dan Tysk project, which is currently being constructed by Vattenfall and its partner Stadwerke München.
