The Finnish company will work with Southern Company and Santee Cooper to assess the potential for utility-scale development.
According to Vaisala, improving resource assessment and turbine technologies are increasing the level of interest in the Southeast, seen as offering lower winds than other parts of the US.
The feasibility study – carried out with the support of regional industry body the Southeastern Wind Coalition (SEWC) – will see Vaisala deploy its Triton Wind Profilers at locations across the region, which includes populous states such as Florida and Georgia.
