Ownership of the US wind fleet is already relatively concentrated. The 25 largest owners collectively own more three-quarters of the 66GW of the operational wind capacity installed the US, according to AWEA figures.
The top five owners – NextEra Energy Resources, Iberdrola Renewables, Berkshire Hathaway Energy, EDP Renewables, and Invenergy – own 41% of the total.
But that concentration is likely to strengthen further over the next few years, predicts Dan Shreve, partner at MAKE Consulting.
