In addition to inviting the submission of “nominations” from developers, DOI’s Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) intends to prepare an environmental assessment (EA) as part of preparation for potential future tenders.
The EA will consider the environmental consequences associated with issuing commercial wind leases and approving site assessment activities on those leases within what are now “call areas.”
BOEM will accept public comments for 60 days on both steps it is taking after it publishes them in the Federal Register, the official record of the US government.
