China blasted past the US in overall wind capacity in 2010, and has gone on to widen the gap dramatically in the years since. At the end of 2013, China had 91.4GW of installed wind capacity, nearly half again as much as the 61.1GW in the US, according to the Global Wind Energy Council.
But that yawning lead belies the fact that the US has built out its wind fleet far more efficiently.
