Statoil North America last November applied for a commercial lease to build a four-turbine, 12MW pilot of its Hywind floating offshore concept about 22km from the US state’s coastline.
The US Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) will now open a 60-day Request for Interest (RFI) process to see if other developers are interested in constructing wind-power facilities in the same 57 sq km zone for which Statoil is seeking a lease.
