Latin America's renewables champion, tiny Uruguay, has welcomed the global agreement reached after COP21 in Paris, but its problems increasing renewable power capacity are more related to its small size than to the overall development of the market.
Uruguay’s current wind capacity is 856MW, up from 400MW at the end of 2014. Accounting for about 20% of its installed capacity, wind has helped the country reach 100% renewable energy supply along with its hydro-reservoirs and biomass plants.
