Scotland has been one of Europe’s most enthusiastic backers of clean power.
Its devolved government has set a 2020 target for renewables to account for 100% of Scotland's own power needs and the country is home to more than 4.5GW of operating onshore wind, out of a total UK base of 7.5GW.
The country is also set to host major offshore wind projects and has been earmarked for possible production facilities by wind-power majors.
