Chief executive Vince Hawksworth cited the Australian government's 2020 target of generating 20% of the country’s electricity from renewable sources as the major driving force behind both the building of stage one and the decision to expand.
The news closely follows Ratchaburi Electricity’s announcement of plans to spend A$572m ($600m) to triple its existing 100MW of wind capacity in Australia, citing good resources on the country’s coasts and favourable government policies.
TrustPower has struck a power purchase agreement (PPA) for the output of Snowtown II – located about 160km north west of Adelaide – with Origin Energy, which already has a purchase agreement for 89% of stage one.
