Former Texas Governor Rick Perry looks set to become the next US Secretary of Energy after a relatively smooth performance in his Senate confirmation hearing Thursday, including a promise to continue pushing for the expansion of renewables.
Perry, an unquestioned ally of the fossil-fuels industry, told the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee that if confirmed as energy secretary he would “advocate and promote American energy in all forms, and that includes renewables”.
