The blast took place in Satara district at around 1130 today injuring a further four construction staff, said Indian media.
Abhinav Deshmukh, superintendent of police for the Satara district is quoted by the Times of India linking the accident to explosives used in the construction process.
"The intensity of the blast was so high that it created a ditch at the site, while the tin sheds were completely damaged," the policeman added.
