Power from North Sea offshore wind parks in 2015 contributed 9.6% of Germany's overall wind energy generation of 77TWh, TenneT said.

The TSO also boosted its offshore grid connection capacity last year, by 575MW to 4.3GW, but stresses that the grid capacity now by far exceeds the 3GW of offshore generation installed by the end of last year.

TenneT management board member Lex Hartman warned of the rising curtailment of offshore wind power in Germany as high-voltage direct current (HVDC) links connecting northern to southern Germany are not being built in time.
