Ontario is currently in the midst of its first competitive large-scale renewables procurement round (known as LRP1), which replaced a feed-in tariff the government felt did not do enough to protect communities and foster competition among developers.

The 300MW of wind and 140MW of solar capacity put to tender under LRP1 were massively oversubscribed, and the winners will be revealed later this year – with heavyweights like NextEra, EDF, and RES in the hunt.
