The wind farm – which will require an investment of more than €1.2bn ($1.35bn) – will be operational from 2019, said German utility E.ON.
The project’s 6MW Siemens turbines will operate on monopile foundations at depths of 23-37 metres.
The 50/50 arrangement will see Statoil involved in the Arkona project “from the start” said E.ON, which will lead the construction and operation of the wind farm 35km off Rügen Island from a base at the Port of Sassnitz in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern.
