The previous record was set on 8 November, with 111,620 MW.

According to an advance version of REE’s 2009 power market report, Spain’s installed wind power capacity reached 18,119 MW in 2009, up 2,682 MW from 2008’s level. Wind energy covered 13% of demand in 2009, compared to 11%, overtaking coal for the first time.

While wind output has hit a series of new peaks in recent months, REE has also highlighted that at one point on 27 August, wind power supplied only 1% of demand, illustrating Spain’s growing challenge of dealing with the intermittency of wind power.
