A recently signed memorandum of understanding (MoU) between the four sides advances a proposal long championed by SoftBank founder and chief executive Masayoshi Son to connect Japan, Russia, South Korea, China and Mongolia in a single, cross-border electricity network.

The MoU is aimed at developing the infrastructure needed to exchange power between the region’s countries by 2030.

The four sides will now start to study the technical and economic feasibility of connecting the countries of the region in a single, meshed grid network.
