Siemens to supply direct drive turbines to US wind farm

Wind turbine manufacturer Siemens will supply 15 of its new SWT-3.0-101 direct drive turbines to Minnesota Power for its Bison 1 wind farm near Center, North Dakota.

Siemens says that Minnesota Power modified its original order to include to now include the 15 direct drive turbines as well as 16 2.3-MW SWT-2.3-101 machines, from its original order of 33 SWT-2.3-101 turbines. The 16 2.3MW machines are currently being installed, while the 15 direct drive turbines will be delivered in August 2011.

This is the second order for Siemens direct drive wind turbines in the U.S.
