The German industrial giant in March had presented its ‘offshore transformer module’ (OTM) to be integrated directly atop wind turbines for alternating current (AC) grid connections as are customary in wind parks that don’t lie too far away from the shore.
Siemens said the new AC technology could shave off 30-40% of grid connection costs compared to conventional systems with a separate transformer substation, and make installation time faster.
