Siemens grabs 101MW Puerto Rico wind turbine order

Siemens has won an order for 44 of its 2.3MW turbines for Pattern Energy’s Finca de Viento Santa Isabel wind farm in Puerto Rico.

Commissioning of the 101MW wind farm is scheduled for September 2012 and the contract includes a five-year service and maintenance agreement.

The German manufacturer says the latest contract brings its orders from the Americas since July to $900m.

That total includes three deals with US developer Duke Energy, another sale to Pattern and an order from Canadian developer Grand Valley.

Siemens claims it is currently in “a strong number two” position in the US market in terms of cumulative capacity, with a strong footprint in Canada that includes the number one spot in Ontario.
