Canada installed 1,871MW of wind capacity across five provinces in 2014, smashing the record 1,599MW it installed in 2013, new CanWEA figures show.

CanWEA expects 1.5GW of new capacity to be added in 2015.

Siemens – which has a blade factory in Tillsonburg, Ontario – was the largest turbine supplier into the Canadian market last year.

The German industrial giant benefitted from its association with Samsung and Pattern Energy in Ontario, where its turbines went into projects like 270MW South Kent, completed last spring; the 149MW Grand Renewable, completed last week; and the under-construction 270MW K2.
