The utility will build the wind farm “in collaboration” with Infinity Wind Power, the California-based developer behind the project.
In a separate agreement expected to be concluded by the end of the year, Westar also plans to “pursue” another 200MW of wind at an unnamed project in Kansas, with an option to own half of the capacity.
Western Plains will be among the largest wind farms in Kansas when it is brought online in early 2017.
