The SWT-7.0-154 now has full IEC-61400-22 compliance as the German OEM gears up to meet orders for the new turbine at major European offshore projects, including the second 330MW phase of the UK’s Walney Extension.
The turbine is also the preferred choice for the 714MW East Anglia 1 project being developed by Iberdrola off eastern England.
The 7MW machine – an upgraded version of the 6MW turbine already in service – received optimised project management to reach compliance in the timeframe needed against a background of increased pressure to lower the cost of wind energy offshore, said DNV GL.
