Boralex, a mid-sized operator of renewables capacity in North America and Europe, and Gaz Métro, the province's biggest natural gas distributor, spent more than three years building the C$750m ($705m) first phase of the project, which is already one of the largest wind farms in Canada.

Located 60km north of Québec City, the first phase of Seigneurie de Beaupré employs 126 Enercon E-82 and E-70 turbines.
