The government signed-off on the 130MW Stornoway wind project less than a month after SSE Renewables pulled out of its planned 94MW Pairc project on Lewis, citing insurmountable environmental constraints.
Several environmental organisations had raised concerns about the Stornoway project, which is backed by EDF and UK consultancy AMEC. However, Edinburgh gave the green light after the developers dropped the turbine count to 36 from 42.
