The facility’s 46 wind turbines will generate 69MW of electricity to power more than 20,000 homes in eastern Michigan, company spokeswoman Sue Reid told Recharge. It began commercial operation in mid-December.
RMT estimates the wind farm will avoid 124,000 tons a year of carbon dioxide emissions if the power had been generated from fossil fuel plants.
John Deere Renewables acquired Michigan Wind 1 from Noble Environmental Power in October 2008.
