Reuters news agency, citing anonymous sources, says GE, which offered concessions a month ago to head off the commission’s worries about the deal, improved its package this month, making approval likely.
The two companies have been working to remedy concerns over competition in the gas turbine sector, with Alstom agreeing to a €300m ($331.5m) reduction in the price it receives from GE, to help fund concessions to appease regulators.
