PV technology is leading the way for the build-out, accounting for 33.4% of added plant between 2012-2025, with wind a close second at 32.7%, hydro power at 25.3% and other renewable technologies representing the remaining 8.6%.
"The past decade has witnessed significant developments in policies for renewable energy. Previously, less than 50 countries worldwide had support policies for renewable energy; this number now stands at more than 130," note the authors of the consultancy's 2014 Annual Renewable Energy Outlook.
