The IEA says energy demand in sub-Saharan Africa is expected to grow by around 80% as the economy quadruples and the population nearly doubles in size by 2040.
Much of the expansion in electricity production will come from renewables, the IEA says.
“A better functioning energy sector is vital to ensuring that the citizens of sub-Saharan Africa can fulfil their aspirations,” says IEA executive director Maria van der Hoeven.
