The multi-year extension to the US federal PTC incentive and the “increasingly climate-conscious” policies of key Canadian provinces will see the two nations add a total 74.5GW from 2016-21, according to the research group’s latest wind power outlook for North America.
The PTC will underpin 44.4GW of additions in the US to 2021 amid "unprecedented policy clarity", says MAKE, which nevertheless warns that the American industry will need “several drivers to align” to sustain growth once the value of the incentive steps down after 2018.
