Offshore wind pacesetter Orsted won’t take big stakes in any commercial scale floating wind projects before that market gains volume and scale, the Danish group's chief financial officer Marianne Wiinholt said.
Floating offshore technology is still in a pilot phase, she stressed during a conference call on first quarter results, as projects off Norway and Scotland showed.
“If you look at floating, we need a very, very significant cost out to make floating competitive with other technologies, like bottom-fixed offshore wind, for example,” Wiinholt said.
