The review, released ahead of publication tomorrow of a study of floating wind carried out by industry body the Carbon Trust for the Scottish government, looks at the technical development, deployment volume and cost competitiveness of the various designs to identify where innovation and collaboration in the supply chain could lower floating wind power's levelised cost of energy.
There are currently a handful of floating wind turbine prototypes in the world's waters, including Statoil's Hywind 1 off Norway, Principle Power's WindFloat 1 off Portugal and the Marubeni-led consortium's Fukushima Forward units off Japan, as well as fast-emerging plans for two maiden arrays off Scotland.
