The year since the signing of the Paris Agreement has been an annus mirabilis for renewables.

More than $310bn in investment streamed in to clean-energy projects around the world, as the International Energy Agency recorded in its inaugural World Energy Investment report — two and a half times that spent on fossil fuel exploration and production and the second year running that the wager on green eclipsed the gamble on black.

Wind power reached an installed capacity of 433GW in this period and is on track to hit 2,110GW by 2030, according to the latest forecasts from the Global Wind Energy Council.
